Her first stop was Perth where she officially opened, on October 27, the first part of Paxwold Guides WA's training centre, in the hills of Perth.

As usual she met many thousands of Brownies, Guides and Rangers.

She then went to Adelaide in South Australia, and on to Victoria. While in Portland in early 1958 she had to undergo emergency surgery. Just a few days later she was on the hospital balcony, in full uniform, taking a salute from hundreds of Guides and Scouts. The World Flag flew above the hospital building throughout her stay. Carloads of flowers from all all over the world were delivered to the hospital, along with hundreds of get well messages, including a telegram for Queen Elizabeth II. Apparently the Portland post office had to hire extra staff to cope with the extra mail!

The Ice Cream for the Chief scheme started here. The State Commissioner for Victoria, Margaret Curtis-Otter, suggested that to recognise Olave's great contribution to the youth of the world, each Brownie, Guide and Ranger could deny herself one ice-cream, and donate the price to a fund for the Chief.

After her recovery she moved on to Tasmania, back to Victoria, and to New South Wales. In Sydney Guides and Scouts formed a huge trefoil in the ring at the Show grounds.

In Brisbane, Olave dedicated the new headquarters in Boundary Street.
